FIELD SERVICE SPECIALIST II
CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CDOT)
Number of Positions: 5
Starting Salary: $68,676; Grade V-13

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct field inspections of construction, demolition, and excavation sites to ensure compliance with relevant laws, rules, regulations, permits, and installation plans.
Survey public right‑of‑way to identify impacts to traffic flow and advise offending entities to comply with approved traffic control plans.
Perform utility damage investigation per 811 Chicago policies.
Consult with entities to bring sites into compliance, issue citations for non‑compliance when necessary, and re‑inspect sites.
Organize and prioritize daily inspection agenda based on directives from CDOT management, 311 requests, permit milestones, One Call concerns, sign work orders, and other sources.
Respond to inspection requests with sufficient data including description, solution, and pictures.
Research construction and obstruction activity using electronic databases, interpret criteria, and close or re‑assign open inspections.
Maintain field notes, inspection logs, mileage sheets, and comply with accountability measures including device tracking.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of work experience inspecting public‑way construction and demolition projects, or interpreting blueprints for such projects, determining street sign placement, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
A valid State of Illinois driver’s license.
Permanent use of an insured automobile, with a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability.
