Overview
At Governing for Impact, we develop rigorous policy proposals for executive action. Through collaboration with partners, we help drill down on the nitty gritty details of executive branch policy development and implementation to empower advocates and government officials alike to advance smart and effective policy. Over the past four years, Governing for Impact (GFI) worked to develop and advance smart regulatory proposals that can withstand judicial battles over the long-term. With the balance of power in Washington shifted, we are using our expertise in the regulatory process and administrative law to respond to this administration’s actions and policy proposals. Role Description
We are seeking an energetic and highly-organized Development Manager to manage the fundraising strategy and activities of the organization. This is a key role in helping to grow and sustain the organization. The successful candidate will be analytical and creative, collaborate well with a passionate and fun staff, and coordinate and manage multiple projects. This Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director. This is a new position and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help establish a professional fundraising and donor relations function at Governing for Impact. The position will require managing relations with GFI’s current, long-standing donor partners, as well as supporting efforts to broaden GFI’s donor base. The position is a self-starter keen to establish a career in fundraising and with a deep commitment to developing and advancing smart policy proposals and defending against attacks on democracy. Duties
Plan and execute strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects, donors, and foundations In coordination with the executive team, research potential new donors and foundations and support the outreach process. Assist with annual development goal setting and track progress towards those goals Manage overall donor data tracking, including building of a new donor database Maintain correspondence with existing and prospective donors in a timely and professional manner Prepare proposals, write grant reports, and track reporting deadlines Prepare senior team members for meetings with donors, manage fundraising schedules, and, when required, accompany the executive director to donor meetings. Manage call-time for the Executive Director Assist in the development of development related marketing materials and communications Manage, with the Executive Director, Board engagement in development activities Track stewardship goals for major donors, ensuring proper acknowledgement of gifts, and moving a process for moves management of recurring donors Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have the following experience and qualifications: 3-5 years of experience working in nonprofit organization fundraising department, preferably experience working in early stage non-profits Demonstrated commitment to the mission of our organization; ability to grasp and communicate complex policy ideas and goals of our work in clear, accessible, and compelling ways Strong writing and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and collaboratively Demonstrates a very high level of organization; a strong ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines A clear understanding of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit legal issues/structures Experience working with a fundraising or CRM database is preferred Fluency in Excel Ability and willingness to travel occasionally The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on relevant experience, skills, and geographic location.
