OPEN RANK - Academic Division Chief, Gastroenterology - Clinical Educator or Physician Scientist

The Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) of the University of South Florida (USF) is conducting a national search for a distinguished academic clinical leader in gastroenterology to serve as the Division Chief & Director, Digestive Diseases & Nutrition within the Department of Internal Medicine.
The Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition encompasses all subspecialties of gastroenterology. Our faculty have been recognized in USN&WR rankings for 9 consecutive years and in 2023 were ranked #15 in the nation for state-of-the-art patient care.
As Division Chief, the successful candidate will have accountability for the coordination of operations and outcomes of all clinical activities of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition faculty and staff located at USF and TGH locations. The Division Chief will be expected to improve clinical operations, especially patient access and referring physician satisfaction. There must be a deep commitment to quality and safety in patient care and a focus on value-based care through facilitating hospital throughput and cancer screenings. The Division Chief will also be a co-leader of the TGH GI & GI Surgery Service Line, partnering with TGH administrative leadership to enhance services at TGH and expand top-rated gastroenterology services at TGH and its sites.
The Division Chief is expected to contribute to the Division’s academic culture by launching a clinical research portfolio, expanding clinical trials, and engaging each faculty member in scholarly work. Duties include mentorship of faculty practicing at affiliate sites (such as the VA and Moffitt), inclusion in research and publications, mentorship for promotion and tenure, and leadership in fellowship education. The Chief will support a fellowship program to be competitive with top national training programs and integrate discovery and innovation with clinical practice.
Responsibilities
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor, normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent. Candidate must obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL Medical License, credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at assigned hospitals.
Participation in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
