Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Sys Engr-Interface Engineer (25-511) to join our team. This position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, supports the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. Relocation assistance is not available and this role is on-site with no remote options. Position Overview The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a central element of the Missile Defense System. It enables strategic planning, monitoring, and management of networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. It supports a layered missile defense capability and is a key component of ground and flight tests. The Interface Engineer will lead the development and design of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs). They will establish new interfaces between external elements (such as sensors) and other Command and Control Systems. The engineer will ensure ICDs/IDDs meet program standards and develop behavioral diagrams to document requirements. This position is part of the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. An Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer who may support non-interface systems engineering activities. Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700 Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300 Essential Functions Developing, updating, and maintaining multiple ICDs and IDDs Attend interface working group meetings with the external MDA customer and representatives of the assigned external element engineering organization; support program integration and testing efforts for the related interface Assist other Interface Engineers in developing ICDs for different Missile Defense Systems Elements, supporting requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks Support leadership, developers, and testers by addressing messages, interface rules, questions, and test findings Strong written and verbal communication skills Basic Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics) with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience Active DoD-issued Secret clearance at time of application Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% Solid understanding of Systems Engineering processes and principles Proven ability to deliver effective product solutions Experience in requirements elicitation, especially using behavior diagrams Expertise in interface engineering, including authoring ICDs and IDDs that cover: message definitions/processing rules/formatting (e.g., XML, VMF); physical and network specifications and models (including ISO/OSI); network topologies, devices, and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP) Preferred Qualifications A Master's Degree in STEM Systems Engineering is preferred INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF) Prior work with IBM Rational DOORS or similar requirements tools Eight or more years of professional Systems Engineering experience with proven ICD/IDD development adhering to DIDs and DoD standards Experience delivering ICDs/IDDs within a Missile Defense System and strong knowledge of C2 system ICDs/IDDs Strong communication with software teams and understanding implementation considerations What We Can Offer You Northrop Grumman offers a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that supports growth.
