Overview Ohio State's Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) oversees campus design, construction, and renovation projects; technical support services; and building design standards. FDC staff provide support services to campus, medical center, academic and regional campuses, auxiliary buildings as well as site work and support. They play a critical role in leading projects for Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) and strive to deliver high quality projects that create positive experiences through the built environment.

Responsibilities

Manage, supervise, direct, and coordinate new construction and renovation projects through the entire project life cycle, including budget/estimating, scheduling, planning/design, bidding, construction, and closeout phases.

Use project delivery methods such as Design/Bid/Build, Design‑Build, and Construction Manager at Risk.

Ensure projects run according to schedule, meet financial objectives, and exercise independent judgment.

Coordinate pricing and proposals with contractors; monitor timelines and budgets; review/approve monthly contractor billing.

Review and approve shop drawings, change directives, RFIs, and change orders.

Coordinate necessary interruption of services with Operations staff and utilities partners.

Transition projects to university operations and departments at occupancy; close out projects, ensuring all invoices and commitments are processed.

Verify record drawings and operating manuals are received and delivered to the appropriate university departments.

Maintain project documentation in the electronic project file and project management system.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience managing design and construction projects, facilities management, or planning.

Desired

3–5 years of experience managing design and construction projects, facilities management, or planning.

Familiarity with state and local building codes and building systems.

Knowledge of negotiating contracts and fee proposals.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Proven organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, planning, and database software.

Valid driver's license.

Knowledge of OSHA, ADA, and other applicable codes and regulations.

Experience with CADD, Revit, BIM, or other drafting programs.

Experience within academic, public sector, or university projects.

Registered Architect or Professional Engineer is a plus.

Additional Information The target hiring range for this job profile is $75,700 – $98,900 annually. Salary will vary based on education, experience, and internal equity.

Position Details Band: Individual Contributor Level – S2, Experienced

Position Type: Regular, First Shift (40 hours per week)

Potential 24‑hour emergency call and travel outside the Columbus Campus may be required.

Will require a criminal background check.
