Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer role at Inside Higher Ed. This position designs, modifies, plans, initiates and manages projects, and develops/assesses equipment and staff performance standards to support effective equipment operations and efficient utilities usage. The role covers mechanical systems and equipment including HVAC, plumbing, steam, chilled water, and medical gas. Develops scope, specifications, and drawings for HVAC/mechanical projects; performs engineering quality assurance reviews of large-scale construction and renovation projects; identifies capital needs for HVAC, controls, and mechanical systems; provides technical direction through project completion; and maintains documentation for hospital accreditation with regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission.
Operates with a high level of autonomy as an engineering planner/project coordinator utilizing internal and external consultants and resources. Manages administrative functions of staff on projects and leads consulting engineers and internal staff. Mentors and develops FOD Operations staff and communicates across the health system, university administration, and other facilities departments.
Responsibilities

Develop scope, specifications, and drawings; perform quality assurance reviews on large-scale construction/renovation projects.
Identify short- and long-term capital needs; develop scope; procure budget estimates; provide technical direction through project completion.
Gather/analyze data and prepare capital and operations planning recommendations.
Maintain documentation required for hospital accreditation with accrediting/regulatory agencies (e.g., The Joint Commission).
Coordinate projects with internal/external consultants and resources; resolve complex problems and negotiate as needed.
Manage administrative functions of project staff, including consultants and internal staff.
Mentor and develop staff; communicate across the health system and university facilities departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer license; five years’ experience in HVAC, plumbing, and/or fire protection design (hospital setting preferred) with two years leading work groups and two years of construction project management. Excellent engineering and office software skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Considerable experience with hospital mechanical systems (desired).
One to three years’ experience in healthcare HVAC, plumbing and fire protection (desired). LEED AP BD+C, CEM, CHFM and/or Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification (desired).
Ability to create and maintain strong team collaboration and foster a positive work environment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse, customer-service oriented environment; build constructive relationships within the team and across the organization.
Ability to handle risk and uncertainty; act without having the total picture.
Proficient diagnostic skills to identify and resolve technical problems. Valid driver's license. Must live within sixty (60) miles of the Wexner Medical Center main campus.

Demonstrates competence in technical and interpersonal skills required to meet job expectations.
Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, OBBC, NFPA, ASHE, ASHRAE, JCAHO and other regulatory requirements; takes appropriate action for compliance.
