Purpose Of Position

The Department of Economics at Christopher Newport University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Economics, effective August 2026. The nominal teaching load for tenure-track appointments is 3-3. Working Title

Commitment to undergraduate education and the potential for excellence in teaching and policy-relevant research. Contribution to the department’s academic culture and providing service to the college, university, and broader professional community. Teach undergraduate courses; participate in departmental activities that enhance student learning and program quality. Qualifications

PhD in Economics or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates who will not hold the PhD by the time of appointment may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Preference will be given to candidates with specializations in macroeconomics, applied economics and econometrics. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable. Department & Programs

The Department of Economics at Christopher Newport University is composed of 9 full-time faculty offering a B.A. in Economics with concentrations in economic policy, mathematical economics and international economics, and a minor in economics. The faculty emphasize high-quality classroom instruction informed by research and professional activities, and provide students with opportunities to engage in research, speakers, and extracurricular activities.
