Overview Assistant Professor of Kinesiology (Biology) — Full Time, Tenure-Track. Appointment effective August 2026. A Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Biology, or a closely related field is required for appointment. The department seeks candidates with experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to their success. ABD candidates may be considered for appointment at Instructor rank in some cases; exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank.

Responsibilities

Support the growth and development of the Kinesiology major and teach courses such as Introduction to Kinesiology, Nutrition, Biostatistics, Biomechanics, Motor Learning, and Anatomy and Physiology.

Contribute to the Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology major and may develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Teach lower division courses in the Liberal Learning curriculum and participate in the Honors Program as appropriate.

Support the Master of Science in Environmental Science program.

Develop and maintain a research program that involves students and has potential for external funding.

Engage a diverse student body in creative intellectual challenges and contribute to undergraduate education.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Biology, or a closely related field is required for appointment.

Commitment to undergraduate education and to working with a diverse student population.

Ability to establish a productive research program involving students and pursue external funding where appropriate.

Interest in biomechanics or other areas of Kinesiology is encouraged.

Departmental Information The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science comprises 34 faculty and is housed in a modern integrated science building. The university will open the Science and Engineering Research Center (SERC) in Spring 2026 with dedicated space for Kinesiology and equipment such as treadmills, ergometers, a metabolic cart, a Biodex system, ultrasound for muscle imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation with EMG, and a force plate. The department oversees approximately 770 students pursuing B.S. and B.A. degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and related programs, and collaborates with the Psychology department on the Neuroscience program.
