The Universities of Wisconsin - System Administration team seeks a contractor to augment its Systems and Engineering team, which oversees IT infrastructure and server systems. The team is currently engaged in migrating servers and consolidating systems into new data centers. This position will work closely with team members, stakeholders, and clients to migrate Windows and Linux machines and perform day-to-day systems administration tasks. The Technician III will manage, configure, and secure infrastructure composed of both Windows and Linux environments using tools such as VMware. The role supports a large environment with over 300 servers and requires maintaining high standards for data protection, availability, and performance. Responsibilities
Managing support tickets and assisting users with server- and application-related issues Ensuring proper documentation and communication across teams and stakeholders Maintaining security and disaster recovery measures for Windows and Linux servers Performing daily systems administration tasks and supporting migration projects Required Skills
Proficiency in using VMware to manage Windows and Linux servers Building, configuring, and managing Windows and Linux servers in a complex environment with over 300 servers Implementing and maintaining security and disaster recovery measures on Windows and Linux servers Answering support tickets and assisting users with issues related to Windows servers and applications Strong written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder and user interaction Nice to Have Skills
Experience in monitoring system performance and uptime Familiarity with Active Directory, Intune, and/or Microsoft 365 Knowledge of Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and two-factor authentication (e.g., Okta) Experience working with MS SQL servers and clusters Job Function / Industry
