Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager
to assist with current client development, new business development, and industry awareness. This position requires prior consulting experience and FERC experience. The role focuses on energy projects with responsibility for advancement of permitting and compliance for Natural Gas Act-regulated projects in the United States, including natural gas transmission and LNG. The position requires an understanding of the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
and the complexities of energy and environmental policy and will require a broad knowledge base to draw upon. This position can be based anywhere in the U.S. Responsibilities
Manage large and complex projects, on time and to budget, including scope and delivery requirements, budgeting, resourcing, planning, coordinating field and other technical work, and managing health, safety, and risk aspects. On a project basis, act as client point of contact, lead an inter-disciplinary team that will support environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting (e.g., baseline studies, facility siting and routing studies, land use planning, mitigation), as well as environmental compliance services during construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations. Manage multiple projects concurrently, including major natural gas and LNG capital development projects throughout the United States, as well as hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration facility projects. Generate technical proposals, identify new leads, and participate in business development with existing clients. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business. Lead strategic meetings with regulatory agencies to address regulatory and/or legislative requirements such as state siting review processes. Engage with key regulatory agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices. Contribute technical, subject matter or project management expertise on environmental assessments, impact assessment deliverables, and overall quality control review. Requirements
Bachelors’ degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related natural resources science field of study, or equivalent experience. Prior consulting experience required 6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC-regulated projects, including consulting for private-sector clients. At least 5 years of experience managing the permitting of large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications. Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including NEPA, Clean Water Act Section 404, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10, NHPA Section 106, and Endangered Species Act Section 7. Experience with federal, state, and local permitting. Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite software. Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents. Keen attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a project team. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical knowledge to staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders. For the Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager position, the anticipated base pay is $129,195 – $152,500 (USD). Compensation within this range will be based on factors including education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business needs. The company may pay outside the range in some cases. This role is eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
