Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager – ERM
ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager to assist with client development, new business development, and industry awareness. This position requires prior consulting experience and FERC experience. The role focuses on energy projects with responsibility for permitting and compliance related to development of Natural Gas Act-regulated projects in the United States, including natural gas transmission and LNG. A broad understanding of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the complexities of energy and environmental policy is required.
This position can be based anywhere in the U.S.
The Principal Project Manager will work with ERM teams to provide industry-leading service to a portfolio of clients; participate in industry working-groups related to potential or proposed policy changes or new initiatives; and stay aware of market conditions and industry trends. The successful candidate will manage multiple clients’ development concurrently and cultivate new business by identifying project opportunities and conducting client outreach.
Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The candidate must manage varying priorities to deliver high-quality project deliverables on time and within budget. Initiative, critical thinking, and creativity are required to generate ideas for research questions, work approaches, presentation of information, and issue resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage large and complex projects, single or multi-site, on time and to budget, including scope and delivery requirements, budgeting, resourcing, planning, coordinating field and technical work, and managing health, safety, and risk aspects. On a project basis, act as client point of contact and lead an interdisciplinary team that supports environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting (e.g., baseline studies, facility siting and routing, land use planning, mitigation), as well as environmental compliance during construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations. Manage multiple projects concurrently, including major natural gas and LNG capital development projects in the United States, as well as hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration facility projects. Generate technical proposals, identify new leads, and participate in business development with existing clients; maintain client relationships to support repeat business. Lead strategic meetings with regulatory agencies to address regulatory and/or legislative requirements such as state siting review applications/processes. Engage with key regulatory agencies, including FERC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NMFS, EPA, federal land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices. Provide technical, subject-matter, or project management expertise on environmental critical issues assessments, deliverables, and overall quality control. REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related natural resources science field, or equivalent experience. Prior consulting experience is required. 6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC-regulated projects, including consulting for private-sector clients. At least 5 years of experience managing the permitting of large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications. Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including NEPA, CWA Section 404, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10, NHPA Section 106, and Endangered Species Act Section 7. Experience with federal, state, and local permitting. Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite. Ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents with keen attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a project team. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical knowledge to staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders. The annual base pay is anticipated to be in the range of $129,195 – $152,500 (USD). Salary within this range will be based on factors including education, qualifications, experience, skills, location, performance, travel, and business needs. The role may include an annual discretionary bonus. Benefits
