Security Officer PRN at Intermountain Health. The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers; enforces policy; provides assistance and direction; responds to emergencies; and protects employees, visitors, and Intermountain property. Base pay
$19.00/hr - $26.00/hr Responsibilities
De-escalation: use verbal and non-verbal strategies to calm individuals and resolve conflicts peacefully, minimizing the need for physical force. Intervene to protect safety when patients act aggressively or violently, including using physical restraints when necessary. Provide training on Workplace Violence Prevention (WPVP) techniques, focusing on education, prevention, and mitigation of workplace violence, including handling verbal harassment, physical assault, and bomb threats. Regulatory compliance: ensure compliance with regulations such as HIPAA when reporting crimes or incidents; disclose only the minimum necessary information to law enforcement. Bomb Threat/Suspicious Package responses: respond to threats following protocols to ensure facility safety. Participate in drills and exercises (e.g., infant abduction, active shooter scenarios) to prepare staff for real-life situations. Conduct respectful and safe searches of patients and search for narcotics, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Safety inspections of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility safety to mitigate risks. Parking enforcement to ensure safety and accessibility, focusing on the patient experience. Investigations: collaborate with HR and law enforcement to conduct investigations and disclose patient information following established protocols. Qualifications
Current Driver’s License (if applicable for the role). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire. At least 21 years of age. Current Unarmed Security Officer License if employed in the state of Montana (if applicable). Preferred Qualifications
One-year prior experience in law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security. Physical Requirements
Ongoing need to see and read information, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs. Frequent communication with customers; ability to understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity to manipulate equipment with precision and accuracy. Ability to lift and move equipment; may involve kneeling, bending, and handling items of varying weights, up to heavy items. For roles requiring driving: expected to drive a vehicle requiring sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. Location
