We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Organizational Development to join our high-impact Organization Effectiveness team at Wellstar. In this role, you’ll serve as an internal consultant and enterprise partner, leading system-wide talent practices that enhance leadership effectiveness, strengthen high-performing teams, enable organizational change, and drive performance excellence. With sharp assessment capabilities and a systems-thinking mindset, you’ll identify opportunities and guide team effectiveness across our large, complex, and matrixed healthcare system. Job Summary
The Organizational Development Director provides support and leads efforts that strengthen the performance of Wellstar leaders, providers and team members to consistently acehieve desired patient outcomes and advance system priorities and strategies. Provides expert consultating in leader development and coaching, organization development interventions, change management, surveys and assessments and other talent management processes to drive effective standardization and alignment across Wellstar to build organizational cohesion, health and flexibility. This individual is regarded as a trusted partner and works in collaboration with HR Business Partners, Talent Management/Organizational Learning Leadership and Local Executives to support development and change initiatives. The Organizational Development Director works independently and is regarded as an informal senior leader and member of the local executive team.
Identifies issues and trends, recommends improvements, and facilitates change using a collaborative approach involving organizational learning, other human resources centers of excellence and other stakeholders as necessary. Supports the integration of corporate initiatives and objectives into business unit operations. The Director applies the principles and practices of organizational development and human resource management to contribute to the success of the health system.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Builds high trust partnerships with local HR and Facility leadership team OL professionals to determine current and future needs. Identify potential gaps, aligns cultural tools and provides guidance in the development of strategies to address deficits. Identifies leader training and development opportunities and supports curriculum design, review, programmatic evaluation and oversees implementation. Advances organizational culture development, innovation, change management, structure, and team performance through the design and deployment of organizational development services and programs, based on needs assessment, proven theory, and best practice. Assesses, identifies, and provides department interventions to resolve issues, enhance performance, and create desired organizational culture. Coaches and consults with leaders to implement identified interventions Provides expertise and coaching in using and implementing leadership assessments and multi-source feedback instruments. Upon review of results, consults with leaders, making recommendation for intervention, change, and performance improvement. Actively participates in OD professional networks to learn, support personal development, and share best practices.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
Master's Degree preferably in Organizational Development, Psychology, Human Resource Management with OD emphasis, Adult Education or related field. Required
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)
Certification in assessment tool administration, change management, and/or executive leadership coaching Preferred
Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in internal consulting working with executives and manager coaching, management consulting, organizational development, change management or a related field, with 3-5 of those years in a Senior Manager or above role; Required and
Experience in a complex multi-site organization in an intermediate to large size organization (5,000 to 10,000 FTEs). Required and
Healthcare Experience Preferred
Required Minimum Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of OD theories, philosophies and methods, adult learning styles and interactive teaching methods, assessment administration, coaching and consulting with individuals and teams, change management theory, organizational and needs analysis, principles of customer service, and employee engagement theories.
