We are seeking a skilled and proficient attorney with 7 plus years of experience in insurance and reinsurance matters to join our legal team. The successful candidate will support our reinsurance operations by providing expert legal advice with a focus on drafting and negotiating reinsurance and associated agreements, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role reports to the Associate General Counsel for Underwriting & Reinsurance and involves close collaboration with various departments within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal counsel and support on insurance and reinsurance matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating reinsurance contracts and related agreements. Advise on regulatory compliance issues related to reinsurance and underwriting activities. Collaborate with Starr’s underwriting, claims, operations and finance departments to address legal issues and provide solutions that align with business objectives. Conduct legal research and stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices. Assist in the resolution of reinsurance disputes, including managing litigation and arbitration processes. Support the development and implementation of corporate reinsurance policies and procedures. Review and advise on reinsurance-related documentation and transactions. Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legal and regulatory issues related to reinsurance. Assist in corporate governance and risk management activities as they pertain to reinsurance. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel for Underwriting & Reinsurance.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. 7 plus years of relevant legal experience in reinsurance with a law firm and/or as in-house counsel. Strong knowledge of insurance and reinsurance principles, practices, and regulatory requirements. Experience in drafting and negotiating reinsurance agreements and contracts. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $202,000 -$264,000
