General Description
Provide comprehensive electrical support for site electrical systems, with responsibilities ranging from medium voltage power to HVAC controls. Primary responsibilities include Central Utility Plant electrical support (power, boilers, chillers, controls, and UPS systems), lighting system controls, and electrical power oversight for laboratory buildings. This position also serves as back-up for site electric operations and provides controls support for VFDs and other instrumentation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Participate in efficient operations and maintenance of all building systems
- Maintain operation of electrical and mechanical equipment supporting critical facility operations
- Demonstrate expertise in low, medium, and high voltage systems operation
- Diagnose malfunctioning equipment and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance tasks
- Coordinate with third-party vendors to execute work and develop corrective and preventive action plans
- Analyze various systems operations, troubleshoot problems/malfunctions, and implement required corrective actions
- Assist with plumbing/piping/tubing installation and repair; wire single and three-phase motors (single & two speed); install conduit; pull wiring to machinery, motors, and operating equipment
- Install and rebuild pumps, motors, and air compressors; service heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace pump seals; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls
- Support other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building systems and equipment
- Implement all standard operating procedures and practices
- Comply with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace
- Minimum five years' experience working with low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and architectural blueprints
- Competence with Windows-based computer systems
- Journeyman Electrician certification preferred
- High school diploma required; two years of trades schooling in electrical system design preferred

- Valid Electrical License required
