I. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
The DFPS IT Division seeks a Worker to perform in a Software Developer role to assist in planning and coordinating continued modernization development activities for the DFPS complex casework management system, including IMPACT, PACES, PEIRS, NEICE, SSCC, ABCS, Child Placement Portal, Incentives and Remedies, Community Based Care, and other operational projects.
The Worker will collaborate with technical teams consisting of team leads, developers, UI/UX engineers, and testing analysts. Responsibilities include facilitating meetings, gathering project details, and documenting requirements for modernization of existing DFPS Enterprise Java web applications. The Worker will coordinate with technical leads (e.g., PMO, CTO, Systems Development Resources) to prioritize work and develop recommendations and alternatives as needed.
This role involves modernizing existing web applications following established standards, quality attributes, and design specifications. Key responsibilities include:
Defining and developing low-level design documents
Following software engineering best practices for robust and standardized solutions
Collaborating with Business Analysis and Project Management to execute development tasks
Participating in design and development for new and existing components
Performing full-stack development, including database, services, web applications, and front-end development
Writing scalable, high-availability code adhering to design principles
Conducting code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, automation, and deployment
Resolving production issues promptly based on priority
Tracking SDLC activity metrics across disciplines
Assessing effort for individual modules
Fostering collaboration among teams to align with mission, vision, values, and goals
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in:
Planning and coordinating technical activities such as work breakdown, estimation, standards enforcement, code review, build engineering, testing, and release management
Prioritizing work with Business Analysis and Project Management, providing options and alternatives
Leading design activities and making recommendations to leadership
Defining automation requirements for CI/CD, including build, testing, and security
Progressive experience with various programming languages and frameworks
Simplifying design complexities for junior developers to meet quality and timelines
Full-stack development capabilities in database, services, web applications, and front-end development
Minimum Requirements:
7+ years of professional experience in software engineering
Expertise in designing and developing customized Salesforce applications
Experience with Salesforce administration tasks such as profiles, roles, users, page layouts, email services, approvals, workflows, reports, dashboards
Experience designing custom formula fields, validation rules, workflows, and approval processes
Development experience with Visualforce, Lightning components, Apex classes, Triggers, Process and Flow Builder, SOQL, SOSL
Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, JS frameworks (Angular, Node), CSS frameworks (Bootstrap), jQuery
Experience with Salesforce Web Services APIs, including SOAP, REST, Bulk API, Metadata API
Experience writing unit tests
Experience with relational database technologies
Familiarity with SDLC methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Agile teams
Salesforce Platform Developer I or Administrator certification
Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 / Section 508 accessibility standards
Note:
The expected start date is 09/10/2025, and the end date is 08/31/2026. The contract may be extended or renewed with mutual agreement. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays. Candidates may need to attend meetings in Austin, TX, with minimal notice. Onboarding includes a virtual session and pickup of agency-issued equipment in Austin, TX. Relocation to Texas may be required for out-of-state candidates.
