Job ResponsibilitiesProvides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a physician.Completes and records health histories of inmates.Performs examinations including physicals, screening for medical problems, and ordering further labs and x-rays.Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems.Prescribes necessary treatment and records patient data and tentative conclusions for review by physician.Examines patient data and develops a plan of care.Plans for care of selected high-risk population.Performs routine incisions and drainages, wound care, and debridement under direct or indirect supervision of a physician.Administers emergency medications and treatments ordered by a physician.As directed by physician, will carry out special procedures (e.g. - give injections or other medications, apply or change dressings, suture minor lacerations, etc.).Provides continuity of care/medication/treatment referrals for HIV/AIDS, HCV, or other infectious disease-infected inmates in SCDC.Provides in-depth education regarding health care issues, including STDs, drug abuse, TB, HIV, HCV, etc.Teaches, counsels, and monitors the treatment regimen in selected populations.Assists in teaching students, interns, and residents complex techniques and procedures which are unique to a specific clinical setting.Monitors and establishes standards for the clinical practice in area of specialization.Travels to other institutions as required by need of medical coverage.Provides training and insight into clinical practice for other areas.Completes assignments or tasks as delegated by institutional physician.Resume preferred but not required.Questions regarding the application process, this job posting, or any other postings with the SCDC should be directed to:Recruiting and Employment Services(803) 896-1649 Minimum and Additional RequirementsState of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor or successor organization. SCDC Minimum Requirements:(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources)Master's degree with responsible and progressive health care experience and completion of a recognized physician's assistant program with clinical experience. Must have basic life support certification.
