This role is essential in fostering a proactive safety and environmental culture, driving employee engagement, reducing risk, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.Key Responsibilities: Assist in developing and implementing site EHS programs and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements. Deliver EHS training to employees and contractors, including new hire orientation and refresher sessions. Lead the EHS FOCUS program, including training, inspections, process confirmations, and recognition awards; analyze data for program improvement. Implement programs to enhance site EHS culture, such as behavior-based safety, ergonomic initiatives, and safety reporting systems. Manage the Durham site's VPP Program application for Carolina Star certification, including inspections, audits, and documentation. Provide EHS guidance to field staff in Cattle, Poultry, and Swine USA operations; conduct ride-alongs to observe safety practices and recommend improvements. Oversee injury logs, workers' compensation filings, and internal reporting. Perform site audits, safety walks, and environmental inspections; identify gaps, develop corrective actions, and ensure compliance sustainability. Manage EHS data reporting through the Cority system and submit required reports to regulatory agencies. Investigate injuries and illnesses to determine root causes and corrective actions; provide coaching on safe practices. Create EHS communications, including notices, newsletters, and postings. Serve on the site's Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee.Required Experience: Bachelor's degree in environment, safety, occupational health, ergonomics, engineering, or related discipline. Minimum of five (5) years of EHS-related experience (recent graduates with relevant internship or shadowing experience may be considered).Nice-to-Have Experience: Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH. Expertise in the Carolina VPP Star program requirements.Required Skills: Thorough knowledge of federal and North Carolina safety and environmental regulations. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Preferred Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Meeting facilitation and multi-tasking abilities. Emergency response decision-making skills.Additional Skills: Data analysis and program improvement. Ergonomic evaluations and solutions.
