Job Title: Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II Profession: Cardiac Cath Lab Tech Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 6A-4:30P Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum 1 year in Cath Lab, Diagnostics, PCI's, Impellas, Balloon Pumps, Peripheral diagnostic interventions License: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification Certifications: BLS and ACLS certifications required Must-Have: - Experience scrubbing within Cath Lab - Team-first mentality - Ability to help out when needed - Flexibility to work weekends for scheduled call Description: Demonstrates understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology. Assists with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff. Responsible for special projects which may include sitting on relevant committees. Adheres to the principles of medical ethics as applied to the role of the Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II. Demonstrates thorough understanding of ECG and related medical terminology. Recognizes ECG waveform morphology, wave patterns, and their significance, including lethal arrhythmias. Recognizes and interprets ECG changes occurring in heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarctions. Able to respond appropriately per ACLS standards. Lists and describes the most common cardiac pathologies, including symptoms and treatments. Demonstrates understanding of all cardiac medications (Generic & Trade names) and their pharmacokinetics related to cardiac and vascular functions. Properly documents medications including indications for administration and dosages. Recognizes and alerts physicians to abnormalities with clinical laboratory values for arterial blood gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, and creatinine. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and can perform all components as a Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II for a patient undergoing full cardiac arrest. Monitors diagnostic cardiac catheter procedures. Intervenes appropriately during and after a lethal arrhythmia using ACLS standards if warranted. Identifies coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections. Identifies cardiac pressure waveforms and informs the Interventional Cardiologist when applicable. Calculates basic hemodynamic parameters using the recording computer. Records catheterization events in the database computer. Understands the necessary supplies required and can provide them. Sets up a table to perform diagnostic cardiac catheterizations. Describes the fundamental steps in a diagnostic heart catheterization and monitors a patient safely during the procedure. Performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and ACT (Activated Clotting Time) measurements. Monitors percutaneous interventions and differentiates between PTCA, directional, and mechanical rotation atherectomy. Possesses full understanding of extraction devices such as angiojet, rotoblator, and laser revascularization devices. Explains the indication and potential complications of thrombolytic therapy for Acute MI. Identifies the benefits of supplementing angiographic imaging with intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry technologies. Describes the indications for electrophysiologic testing, permanent pacemaker implant, therapeutic ablation of dysrhythmias, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. Identifies the main components of the Cath Lab fluoroscopy system and utilizes all necessary components to ensure the Physician has appropriate visibility to perform procedures. Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors. Must practice customer skills through ongoing training and in-services. Must be self-directed and flexible. Ability to scrub in a sterile environment for an undetermined amount of time. Ability to wear lead aprons weighing up to 5 lbs. for an undetermined amount of time. With team assistance, must have the ability to lift patients to and from a stretcher/bed to a procedure table. With team assistance, must have the ability to push a bed or stretcher with an immobilized patient on it. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health Sciences (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, or Cardiac or Vascular Sonography). Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Radiology Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI). Valid BCLS certification required. ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
