Data Scientist (Pending Award)

Lexical Intelligence provides software and services related to processing large-scale biomedical information sources. Our Natural Language Processing (NLP) and analytics software is used by policy and decision makers to evaluate and prioritize current and emerging areas of research.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to work within the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The Data Scientist will have experience in clinical data analytics, statistical analysis, and machine learning. The Data Scientist will have a firm understanding of data management, data standardization, and advanced statistical methods including regression analysis and predictive modeling. The Data Scientist shall be able to work well within a team of researchers, developers, and healthcare professionals. The selected applicant will be subject to a pre-employment background and reference check.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or related fields
  • Experience processing, cleaning, and validating data integrity
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis methods including regression analysis and predictive modeling
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Splunk, Google Analytics
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS
  • Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning algorithms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in data science, statistics, biomedical informatics, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in data science with focus on healthcare or biomedical data
  • Experience with data linkages and conducting longitudinal studies using clinical data
  • Knowledge of NLP techniques to extract information from unstructured text
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs) and AI tools for synthesizing research findings
  • Familiarity with FISMA requirements and secure handling of PHI/PII
  • Experience with cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Background in clinical data analytics and healthcare informatics
  • Experience with data harmonization and data integration across multiple sources
  • Knowledge of database systems including SQL, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch
