Job Summary: The Havener Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University (OSU), is seeking a full-time faculty member in the retina division, specializing in surgical retina and pediatric retina. The position involves shared adult surgical retina call among 8 OSU retina surgeons and pediatric call among 2 OSU retina surgeons, with one surgeon already in place for two years. ROP screening is performed by an experienced team of pediatric ophthalmologists, so this is not a responsibility of the candidate. The position is open to tenure or non-tenure track appointments at the Assistant, Associate, or higher level, depending on experience. The role includes patient care, research, and education responsibilities at OSU Wexner Medical Center and community satellite clinics, with Pediatric Retina duties at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
The Physician provides licensed medical care, including diagnosis, treatment (surgical and pre/post-surgical care), case management, and clinical research. The Physician manages complex and unpredictable situations, requiring technical, clinical, and surgical skills (where appropriate), as well as cognitive and interpersonal skills to serve patients effectively. The Physician must practice within the established policies, procedures, and protocols of the Medical Center and align with its key performance areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- State of Ohio and DEA licensure
- Board eligible or certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment
- Eligibility for licensure in Ohio
- Completed residency in Ophthalmology and fellowship in Surgical Retina
- Evidence of scholarship and discovery through research and publications
- Commitment to education of residents, fellows, and medical students
