Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be completed after referral and tentative selection, but employment is contingent upon meeting all requirements. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
  • For residents: enrolled in an accredited residency program, fully licensed, and appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on a limited basis
  • Proficiency in English
  • Preferred: Board-certified or eligible in Internal or Family Medicine, with at least one year of Primary Care experience
  • Physical requirements met; pre-placement medical exam and drug screening required

Duties

  • Provide comprehensive primary care, including diagnosis, treatment, physical exams, and developing management plans
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and learners
  • Utilize electronic health records and advanced technology to support high-quality care
  • Contribute to quality improvement, research, and clinical projects
