Summary
Under the general supervision of Chief Executive Officer, the Psychiatrist will function as the psychiatrist for an integrated walk-in clinic, serve as a consultant in the Autism Assessment Center, and help develop and deliver other clinical services as directed. This position will perform direct care functions (90%) and administrative functions (10%). The Psychiatrist will evaluate and treat mental health and substance use disorders and will provide psychiatric consultation, guidance, and treatment planning for all persons seeking behavioral health services at the integrated walk-in clinic. The Psychiatrist will also provide psychiatric consultation on an as-needed basis to persons served by the Autism Assessment Center.

The Psychiatrist will evaluate and treat mental health and substance use disorders and will provide psychiatric consultation, guidance, and treatment planning for all persons seeking behavioral health services at the integrated walk-in clinic. The Psychiatrist will also provide psychiatric consultation on an as-needed basis to persons served by the Autism Assessment Center.
Essential Functions
- Performs all duties and responsibilities required of a psychiatrist and provides quality, cost-effective care for the designated patient population in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols, licensing regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Performs initial psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, consultations, and coordinates care with treatment teams.
- Diagnoses mental health and substance use disorders and provides appropriate, evidence-based treatment with psychotropic medications and psychotherapies.
- Develops and oversees treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishes treatment goals and methodologies.
- Participates in Alternative Treatment Order evaluations and fulfills all Mental Health Code requirements.
- Orders relevant diagnostic and laboratory tests and interprets results as clinically indicated.
- Collaborates and supervises Advance Practice Providers (APP) as needed and directed.
- Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by adhering to all applicable policies, procedures, standards, rules, accreditation requirements, and legal regulations.
- Maintains knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures, corporate compliance programs, code of ethics, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, HIPAA and 42 CFR part 2 standards, and other regulatory programs.
- Maintains timely electronic medical records in compliance with clinical, legal, and quality requirements.
- Participates in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading relevant academic publications, attending conferences, and participating in professional organizations.
- Provides crisis intervention when needed, including facilitating patient referrals to crisis center or emergency department, if necessary.
- Monitors clinic productivity to ensure that the clinics targets are met.
- Participates in the development and implementation of grants, accreditations, and service expansions for clinic services.
- Conducts ongoing assessment, planning, and oversight of proper clinic management and service delivery.
- Provides consultation by participating in case reviews, recommending appropriate treatment approaches, committees, and contributing to the establishment of psychiatric programs, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in the development of clinical rotations for medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Teaches and provides clinical supervision to medical students, residents, and fellows as assigned.
- Engages in outreach and community engagement activities on behalf of the clinic.
- Participates in and promotes quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensures that OCHN standards of service are maintained.
- Cultivates, maintains, and enhances team, department, and interdepartmental relationships to promote collaboration, teamwork, and a positive working environment.
- Coordinates with Medicaid Health Plans (MHP) for integration of services.
- Participates in the development of new behavioral health programs to meet the needs of OCHN members and community.
- Provides psychiatric expertise and consultation for complex cases.
- Monitors interdisciplinary teams by reviewing treatment plans and progress.
- Assists in decision making pertaining to the care of patients that is consistent with current medical practice and clinic policies and procedures.
- Participates in the development of care pathways and algorithms that improve clients care.
- Serves as a liaison between the clinic staff and OCHNs organizational leadership.
- Assists in analyses of data and trends at the clinic and helps prepare and present reports to OCHNs organizational leadership as requested.
- Promotes quality care for OCHN members.
- Monitors compliance with quality metrics including but not limited to HEDIS measures and other quality indicators.
- Participates in Root Cause Analysis and special Quality Assurance reviews.
- Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to continuously improve productivity, efficiency, recovery outcomes, and medical care.
- Identifies and reports in a timely manner any health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
- Serves on committees as designated by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by OCHNs Chief Medical Officer.
- Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited School of Medicine.
- Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry.
- Additional fellowship training and board certification or eligibility in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is preferred.
- State of Michigan license to practice as a medical doctor.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License.
- A Controlled Substance Registration Certificate (for schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5) from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States Department of Justice.
- A valid State of Michigan Drivers License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Five (5) years of professional clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare or mental health setting.
- Three (3) years of experience as a psychiatrist.
- Board certification in Psychiatry
- Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN and for required offsite meetings or site visits.
- Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
- Work performed primarily in a clinical or office environment.
- Hybrid (onsite/remote) work schedule available.
