This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who meet initial appointment requirements are deemed to meet the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Completion of approved residency training in an accredited program
- Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Residents Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
- Proficiency in English
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Pediatrics
- At least 5 years of practice post-residency
- Physical standards met; physical examination required prior to placement
- Designated drug testing position with random testing for illegal drug use
- Lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for 3-5 hours, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, depth perception, color discrimination, hearing aid permitted
Duties
We seek an enthusiastic internist passionate about medical education for a full-time Medical Director position at our Jamaica Plain location in Boston, MA. The role involves approximately 51% clinical time in a large primary care practice serving 6,000 patients with access to multiple specialties. Responsibilities include practice management oversight, direct provider supervision, clinical performance, longitudinal patient care, developing educational initiatives, precepting, and quality improvement projects. Prior medical education experience and familiarity with population management, evidence-based guidelines, and adult learning principles are preferred. The practice emphasizes high-quality, evidence-based care, innovative health approaches, and teaching opportunities for students and residents. Academic appointment at Harvard Medical School or Boston University is available. The Jamaica Plain campus offers easy access to Boston's cultural and recreational amenities.
