Summary

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion should be noted, as applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
  • Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • Licensing: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs followed by at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on a limited basis.
  • English Proficiency: Spoken and written.
  • Preferred Experience: Board certification or eligibility in neurology, with experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, and specialized training in movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disorders, cerebrovascular disease, headache, behavioral neurology, dementia, or epilepsy.

Physical and Environmental Requirements: Light lifting and carrying, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, visual and auditory capabilities, mental and emotional stability, and ability to work in various environments.
