Overview

In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient), and staff across all disciplines and departments, the Psychiatrist is responsible for providing direct and appropriate mental health care to adults with mental illness and co-occurring disorders (substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and medical illness) within the CommUnityCare system. As a member of the clinical team, psychiatrists provide direct care to referred patients via face-to-face visits or telehealth, which includes video visits. The psychiatrist may be asked to supervise advanced practice providers working in mental health in accordance with Texas Medical Board regulation and CommUnityCare Policy.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties (at least 5 that are nonnegotiable duties and are absolutely pertinent to successfully completing the job without accommodations):

  1. Ensure optimal patient care that follows federal, state and local requirements.
  2. Perform comprehensive mental health assessment of patients.
  3. Order or execute various tests to provide information on patients condition as appropriate.
  4. Diagnose and treat mental health disorders as appropriate based on patients medical history and results of mental health assessment and refer patients to specialist or other practitioner for specialized treatment.
  5. Prescribe medications and therapies for treatment and preventive care.
  6. Instruct patients and their families regarding treatment, selfmanagement, and followup visits.
  7. Coordinate with primary care service lines and multidisciplinary team members to establish and maintain information, consultation and referral systems for the treatment of patients.
  8. Respond to inquiries from staff and patients regarding preventive health and treatments.
  9. Compile and record patient medical data including health history, treatment plans, and results of mental health assessment in electronic medical record.
  10. Report required information including deaths and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.
  11. Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend and coordinate high standards of medical practice.
  12. Demonstrate expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in mental healthcare.
  13. Develop partnerships to ensure delivery of care consistent with their scope of practice/licensure/certification and that delivery of all programs/services conforms to regulatory requirements and evidence-based practices.
  14. Monitor metrics to ensure services meet and/or exceed quality, access, patient/staff safety and efficiency targets and goals.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service.
  2. Interpersonal savvy and influence skills in managing difficult clients and patients.
  3. High degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of medicine and associated charting requirements.
  4. Requisite skills and ability to perform certain medical tasks as assigned.

  7. Ability to utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval.
  8. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.

  10. Ability to implement, and evaluate operational and administrative processes.
  11. Experience/knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a Federally Qualified Health Center.
  12. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in a patientcentered medical home (PCMH) environment.
  13. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in an integrated delivery environment.

Qualifications:

  1. Directly affect improvements in patient wellbeing through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of relevant, high-quality medical care.
  2. Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and CommUnityCare Standard Operating Procedures and CommUnityCare Policies and Procedures.
  3. Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with coworkers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff.
  4. Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with families.
  5. Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patientcentered care.
  6. Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent CommUnityCare in a highly professional manner at all times.
  7. Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all company policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
  8. Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure.

People Management/Department Management/Business Unit Management:

In addition to the Psychiatrist position responsibilities and duties, team members acting in the capacity of the following positions will be responsible for additional assignments. These roles are assignments, not permanent, regular positions.

Clinic Lead:

  1. Assumes full responsibility for patients receiving care within the designated health centers.
  2. Works in tandem with the Health Centers practice and nursing leaders to ensure a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  3. Leads and motivates the medical providers under his/her supervision; uses effective medical and people performance management processes.
  4. Supports, leads and models the vision, mission and values of CUC.
  5. Serves as the champion for initiatives that impact the operations of CUC and the quality of patient care.
  6. Performs objective annual evaluations of all direct reports with input from the site leadership team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: M.D. or D.O. in Psychiatry from an accredited educational institution.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:

  1. Unrestricted licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
  2. Board Certification in Psychiatry or passage of Board Certification examination within two (2) years of employment.
  3. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for the purpose of writing prescriptions.
  4. Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through American Heart Association.
  5. Current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association.
