Core Job Summary
The UMMG Staff Physician provides medical care to patients based on proper documentation in the medical record as outlined by staff rules and regulations. The incumbent receives patient assignments based on their educational discipline, expertise, or experience.
Core Job Functions
- Develops and implements a comprehensive treatment plan addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural domains.
- Performs physical assessments of patients respectfully and logically.
- Prescribes medical treatments and clinical drugs.
- Gathers essential information through records review and interviews with patients, families, caregivers, and other health professionals.
- Reports to the responsible physician and complies with co-signature policies.
- Reports hazardous conditions, equipment malfunctions, and supply inadequacies.
- Reports all Quality Assurance incidents, including medication errors, following department guidelines.
- Engages in continuing education to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Makes informed decisions on interventions based on patient info, scientific evidence, and clinical judgment.
- Maintains patient confidentiality per federal and state regulations.
- Adheres to institutional policies and safeguards assets.

Core Qualifications
Education:
M.D. in relevant field; Board certification and/or eligibility in Hematology and/or Oncology required.
Certification and Licensing:
Relevant specialty certification required.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills under pressure.
- Discretion in handling confidential information.
- Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Department Specific Functions
- Serve as instructor and attending physician in Medical Oncology, focusing on care for patients with General Med Onc cancers, including outpatient care, on-call, and weekend rotations.
- Focus on treatment of malignant cancers, research protocols, peer-reviewed publications, and clinical trials.
- Develop novel clinical and translational protocols for cancer treatment.
