Custodian STATUS : Hourly Employee WAGE : Hourly, set annually by the Board BENEFITS : Set by School Board WORK YEAR/WEEK : 52 weeks at 40 hours per week SUPERVISOR : Head Custodian/Director of Buildings and Grounds
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain a work climate that is conducive to carrying out the business of the school district in a dignified, orderly, and friendly fashion Possess a positive approach to working with students and staff Pleasing personality in terms of working with other people. Cooperative in terms of working with other people. Initiative in terms of going ahead with assigned tasks. Flexibility in terms of adjusting daily time schedules. Neatness in appearance and work product
SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the Head Custodian/Director of Buildings and Grounds, to provide responsible daily custodial operations, maintaining a sanitary and safe facility for students, employees and the public; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs necessary work to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all hard surface flooring, included but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, polishing and waxing. Respond to emergencies such as spills, sickness, etc. Empty waste containers, recyclable containers, and pencil sharpeners. Clean backboards. Perform specialized cleaning (i.e. carpet shampooing) as requested. Clean sinks, toilet bowls, commodes, classroom door windows, and mirrors. Maintain bathroom areas, including soap dispensers, toilet paper dispensers, and paper towel dispensers. Distribute educational materials and supplies. Shovel and remove ice/snow from sidewalks and building entrances as required. Inform supervisor of malfunctioning equipment and items in need of repair. Make minor repairs such as pencil sharpeners, leaky faucets, replace light bulbs, etc. Secure building and lights, and report breach of security to supervisor. Prepare rooms/areas for special functions, meetings, events, etc. Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe work environment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Must be able to life and carry supplies, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to shovel snow and operate snow blowers and lawn mowers. Requires exposure to cleaning and maintenance equipment, chemicals and products. Requires operation of specialized cleaning and maintenance equipment, including floor scrubbers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Is subject to falls, sprains, cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
