Responsibilities
Job Summary
IES Residential is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized HVAC Estimator to support our HVAC Divisions by developing accurate and timely cost estimates for residential projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in residential construction and a strong understanding of HVAC systems and industry practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze project plans, specifications, and design documents to determine the scope of work.
Perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs using estimating software.
Prepare comprehensive and competitive project proposals, including cost breakdowns for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment.
Track and update material costs, templates, and pricing data within estimating systems.
Evaluate risks, assumptions, and potential issues within project documentation.
Collaborate with Division Managers and clients to clarify project details and present estimates.
Maintain organized records of all estimates, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry codes, regulations, and company standards.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in residential construction; HVAC-specific experience strongly .
Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, technical manuals, and project specifications.
Skilled in writing professional reports and business correspondence.
Effective verbal communication skills; able to clearly present information and respond to inquiries from managers and clients.
Competent in basic algebra and geometry; able to calculate quantities such as area, volume, and percentages accurately.
Capable of conceptualizing project requirements from limited or preliminary information.
Able to follow instructions delivered verbally, in writing, or through diagrams and technical schematics.
Familiarity with HVAC codes and local compliance standards.
Strong time management skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
Experience with digital estimating tools (e.g., Accubid Anywhere or similar) is a plus but not required.
General computer literacy and ability to adapt to new software systems.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position is based in an office setting and requires extended periods of computer use. Occasional visits to job sites may be necessary for project review or coordination.
