Location: USD 373 Service Center QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess interest in working with special education students. REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
JOB GOAL: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district's schools
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Learns each child's name and greets them at pick-up. Interacts with children during route for educational and social experiences. 2. Ensures that all students remain seated and that child restraints are properly adjusted and worn at all times. Handles any disruptions, minor medical problems and any major medical problems until driver can safely pull over and assist. Should know how to correctly handle medical problems according to CHP Guidelines and First Aid. 3. Recognize basic knowledge of the route. 4. Ensures that the bus is empty at the end of each run and that all children are accounted for. Follows procedures for unloading students at the school. 5. Assist driver with all bus evacuations. 6. Assist driver in carrying out functions associated with the operation of transportation services. 7. Focus on the children as riders so the driver can focus on safe driving. 8. Maintains shared responsibility for the supervision and safety of children on the bus during its operation. 9. Attend all professional learning meetings as required for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. 10. Assist students on and off the bus when necessary to provide for safety of all students. 11. Observe and follow all school district policies at all times for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing the district's regulations. 12. Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment. 13. Regular onsite attendance. 14. Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Wage and length of employment to be established by the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
