JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To recruit and identify migrant children and youth, serve as a liaison between school, students and the family and ultimately promote educational success.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or approved equivalency diploma. Ability to speak, read and write Spanish/English. Valid Florida Driver's License. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of current trends, research and best practices related to migrant education. Ability to read and interpret laws, rules, policies and procedures. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in Spanish/English. Skilled in human interaction and conflict resolution. Ability to make presentations. Extensive knowledge of the organization, operation, programs and goals of the SDMC's Migrant Education Department. Knowledge of federal, state and District rules, regulations and policies as they relate to job functions. Ability to exercise independent judgment in assigned duties. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to be flexible.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
To meet with and interview prospective migrant students and their families to determine eligibility for program services. Assist students and parents with school registration and orientation. Accept and act upon referrals from migrant staff and other school personnel. Facilitate communication between home and school through phone calls, home, and work site visits. To inform students and parents/guardians of available services and act as liaison with other social service agencies to facilitate access. Provide interpretation, translation and transportation services as needed. Assist with parent involvement activities. To distribute educational packets or other appropriate items to support OSYs. Coordinate with local growers, crew leaders and other agencies to establish possibilities for recruiting migrant youth. Maintain outreach logs and other required records. Work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Use personal car for local and out-of-town travel. Refer OSYs to appropriate educational and/or training programs. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. Meet and deal effectively with the general public, staff members, students, parents, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment. Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. Model and maintain high ethical standards. Represent the District in a positive and professional manner. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. Follow federal and state laws as well as School Board policies, rules and regulations. Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the Manatee Education Association (MEA) and the School Board of Manatee County. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the MEA and the School Board of Manatee County.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
