JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Custodial Staff plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment in accordance with Department of Health (DOH) regulations. This position is responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks in various areas of the childcare facility to ensure the health and safety of children and staff.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Clearance through DOE Fingerprint Screening ($101.75), NYS Central Registry, Sex Offender Registry clearance, 3 reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, varicella, Tdap, MMR, SCR clearance ($25.00), and DOH required trainings. (Fees may apply) Obtain Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with the agency's policy and procedure regarding identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirement:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in general janitorial duties, including cleaning, repairing, and painting, with a
strong understanding of facility maintenance . Literacy Skills:
Ability to read and write effectively to follow written work schedules and maintain accurate inventory logs. Interpersonal Skills:
A friendly and cheerful personality is essential for fostering cooperative interactions with staff, families, and children. Work Habits:
Demonstrated ability to maintain exceptional personal work habits and routines. Physical Fitness:
Good physical health is required, including the ability to stand for extended periods and multitask effectively. Prerequisites:
Must acquire three Fire Safety examinations (F-01, F-07, and S-95) within three months of hiring. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning Responsibilities:
Daily Cleaning Regimen:
Conduct comprehensive cleaning and sanitization of classrooms, playrooms, restrooms, offices, lobby, kitchen, common areas, and the exterior of the facility. Tasks include dusting, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming floors to maintain the highest level of cleanliness. Disinfection Protocols:
Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces, toys, and equipment to prevent the spread of germs, utilizing tools like the 360 Clorox machine. Waste Management : Efficiently remove trash, compost, and recycling materials from all areas, ensuring proper disposal methods are followed. Floor Care:
Perform on-site stripping and waxing of all floors to maintain their appearance and hygiene standards. Restroom Maintenance:
Ensure that restrooms and all associated spaces remain free of debris, dust, and dirt while maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the day. This includes regular cleaning of garbage bins, mirrors, stalls, walls, surfaces, fixtures, toilets, and washbasins. Maintenance Responsibilities:
Facility Inspections:
Conduct routine inspections to identify and report maintenance issues, including plumbing, electrical, or equipment repair needs. Assist with minor repairs and special projects, while notifying the Center Director of significant maintenance requirements. Repairs and Assistance: Carry out repairs of peeling paint, play equipment, and furniture, and assist in moving heavy items throughout the facility. Participate in the receiving and organization of program supplies. Safety Compliance:
Adherence to Guidelines:
Stringently follow all safety guidelines and protocols established by the Department of Health and the childcare facility. Be proactive in reporting any potential hazards and promptly address hazardous conditions in areas accessible to children. Supportive & Collaborative Role: Team Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with teachers and support staff to identify specific cleaning needs during and after activities. Be readily available to assist with additional cleaning tasks as requested, particularly during peak times or special events. Work closely with fellow custodians to ensure a cohesive cleaning effort. Records, Supplies, and Equipment Management:
Log Maintenance:
Responsible for maintaining detailed Infection Control Logs, playground safety logs, carbon monoxide/smoke alarm logs, fire panel logs, inventory logs, custodial maintenance log order request forms, and other relevant documentation. Incident Reporting:
Work collaboratively with other building maintenance staff and the Center Director, ensuring all incidents or accidents are promptly reported to management. Physical Capacity:
Ability to lift heavy items, with a maximum weight limit of 50 pounds. Additional Duties:
Perform other cleaning and maintenance-related tasks as assigned by Center director or management.
