A leading international company engaged in the design, manufacture, sales & service of industrial & marine steam generating equipment and heat recovery systems has an opening for FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN in Charlotte, North Carolina
JOB SUMMARY:
The Service Tech is responsible for maintaining and repairing stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries. They are responsible for diagnosing the cause of equipment malfunction or failure and are also responsible for disassembling, repairing, and reassembling components and units.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Adjusts and calibrates equipment to operating specifications. • Receives working instructions, work orders, blueprints, and/or drawings from supervisors. • Reviews job requirements and verifies that the required tools, equipment, parts, material, and manuals are part of the service vehicle inventory. • Diagnoses the cause of equipment malfunction/failure by interviewing customers and using appropriate monitoring and testing equipment. • Uncrates, assembles and installs new units as required and according to specifications. • Sells Assured Preventive Maintenance Programs to clients as well as service and repair parts, compounds, and chemicals. • Cleans and/or directs other workers to clean boilers and auxiliary equipment; trains customer-operating personnel with other tasks. • Inspects and repairs boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines such as pumps, draft fans, stokers, and burners. • Replaces damaged boiler tubes and plates and repairs/replaces high-pressure piping • Patches boiler insulation and paints the surface of the equipment. • Performs water pressure test by pumping water into the system to determine the location of leaks. • Fills out and completes service orders as well as other paperwork.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have great customer service skills and the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Must have great problem-solving skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: Working with boilers.
TRAVEL: The employee must be able to spend up to 8 hours per day seated, controlling a motor vehicle. There is the potential that a job at a remote or distant location may result in spending several days at the same location. In these instances, the technician may be required to spend the night or several nights away from home in a hotel. Technicians will be required to be in rotation on a call where they are available to go to the customer's facility with little or no prior notice.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six (6) years’ experience in a related field or three (3) years related experience with technical school background or two (2) years of Clayton Industries product mechanical experience.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly required to stand and walk; reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds. Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and there is risk of electrical shock and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
