Job Summary:
The Splicer Lead is a senior-level technician responsible for overseeing and executing the splicing, installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and copper cable systems. This role combines hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that all splicing activities meet quality, safety, and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate daily operations of splicing crews in the field. Perform complex splicing tasks on fiber optic and copper cables, including ribbon and loose tube splicing. Interpret and implement splicing schematics, blueprints, and network diagrams. Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify network integrity. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards. Train and mentor junior splicers and technicians. Troubleshoot and resolve network issues efficiently. Maintain accurate documentation of splicing activities, test results, and project updates. Communicate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines. Oversee inventory and maintenance of splicing tools and equipment. Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred. 3-5+ years of experience in cable splicing, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Proficiency in using splicing and testing equipment (e.g., fusion splicer, OTDR). Strong understanding of fiber optic and copper cable systems. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, heights, and adverse weather conditions. Skills:
