DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK RATE OF PAY : $14.00 per hour
HOURS OF WORK : Year-round, 28 hours per week
DESCRIPTION OF WORK :
An employee in this class is responsible for performing a wide variety of janitorial and routine maintenance tasks in municipal City buildings. The employee may receive specific assignments from a superior, but must assume some responsibility for achieving desired results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweeps, scrubs, buffs, polish and waxes floors; operates cleaning machinery such as riders/scrubber, walk-behind carpet extractor, high speed buffer, and high pressure washer. Cleans restroom facilities and drinking fountains. Stock paper products and soap dispensers. Dusts surfaces, washes walls, washes windows and interior glass, collects and carries out trash and recyclables. Performs other custodial and cleaning tasks as necessary to maintain a clean, sanitary municipal building and grounds. Reports all obvious safety hazards to supervisor; makes necessary emergency calls relating to fire, accidents, injuries, etc. Requisitions custodial supplies and equipment through superior; maintains and distributes janitorial supplies. Performs unskilled maintenance and laboring tasks; replace light bulbs, unclogs toilets; replaces filters, mover furniture or heavy objects; shovel snow; sweeps walks; maintains mops and brooms and other equipment in good working order; assist with lifting or carrying as required. Complete daily and monthly checklist logs; respond to complaints timely. Set up and tear down chairs and tables in various conference rooms for different events as needed. Performs related work as required. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Must be able to perform essential functions either with or without reasonable accommodation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Some knowledge of janitorial equipment and supplies and their efficient and effective use in cleaning a large complex. Ability to perform physical labor required for cleaning duties. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with other employees and the public regarding janitorial and minor maintenance needs. Ability to establish and maintain records and checklists. Ability to work as a team member. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Some janitorial or custodial experience, preferably in a large public building or multi-faceted facility. Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

POST-OFFER REQUIREMENTS : Satisfactory completion of criminal history, background check, pre-employment physical, and a drug screen that test for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law. Part Time employees are not eligible for City provided health and welfare benefits.
