POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Field Technician with specific expertise in Ciena 6500 Series installation, configuration, and maintenance. This role requires extensive travel to various client sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, configure, and troubleshoot Ciena 6500 Series optical transport platforms and related equipment
Assess installation requirements
Configure network settings, optical parameters, and connectivity options
Test installations to ensure optimal performance and reliability
Document installation procedures
Provide on-site technical support and maintenance
Collaborate with project managers and other technical teams
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience installing and maintaining optical transport platforms, specifically Ciena products
Demonstrated knowledge of the Ciena 6500 Series configuration and troubleshooting
Strong understanding of optical networks, DWDM, OTN, and packet-optical technologies
Experience with telecommunications protocols and security implementations
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and network diagrams
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Willingness to travel (may include consecutive weeks on the road)
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
QUALIFICATIONS
Telecommunications or networking certifications (Ciena Specialist certifications, CCNA, etc.)
Experience conducting equipment testing using tools such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, and light meters to verify performance and resolve issues.
Experience with other optical transport equipment
Background in mission-critical infrastructure projects
Knowledge of data center or carrier network environments
Experience with network management systems for optical equipment
Hands on experience with fiber splicing, fiber testing, cabling, cable management, connector testing, new racks and power connections.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires significant travel to client sites across the country. Travel periods may extend for several consecutive weeks.
