What you will accomplish as a Field Service Technician III at TAPCO
The Field Service Technician III is a senior-level field service role responsible for supporting signalized intersection systems and TAPCO's advanced traffic and parking control systems. This technician performs complex installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic signal and TAPCO systems. As a front-line ambassador for TAPCO, the Field Service Technician III is expected to deliver a consistently positive customer experience, with a strong emphasis on resolving issues correctly the first time.
This position requires both office and field work, with overnight travel up to 75% across the continental United States. The Field Service Technician III interacts with a wide variety of established customer accounts, vendors, internal teams, and the general public, and reports directly to the Field Service Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain traffic signal systems, controllers, and associated hardware.
Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on electronic and electrical traffic control devices.
Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal system performance.
Program and troubleshoot signal controllers, including timing plans and coordination.
Document service activities, system configurations, and customer interactions accurately.
Provide technical support and training to technicians and customers as needed.
Respond to emergency service calls and perform on-site repairs in a timely manner.
Collaborate with engineering, software, and customer service teams to resolve complex issues.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, MUTCD guidelines, and applicable safety regulations.
Operate service vehicles, bucket trucks, and specialized tools and equipment safely.
Required Experience and Knowledge/ Skills/Ability
Strong understanding of traffic signal systems, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, software, and controller programming.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel extensively and work in varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training in electronics or electrical systems preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in traffic signal maintenance or a related field.
IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician Certification.
Valid driver's license required.
Working Conditions
Field work in outdoor environments, including roadside and elevated locations.
On-call availability for emergency service, including nights and weekends.
