Children's Shelter
PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and comfortable environment for all residents and staff at the GRO/Shelter. This includes daily cleaning of rooms and common areas, laundry services, making beds, and ensuring that linens and supplies are replenished and sanitized regularly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain a clean, safe environment, adhering to TCS and licensing standards.
• Clean and sanitize assigned areas including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, offices, and common areas.
• Make beds and change bed linens regularly or as needed.
• Wash, dry, fold, and store bed linens, towels, and laundry items.
• Ensure laundry is sorted, cleaned according to fabric type, and handled with care.
• Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and windowsills.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and/or scrub floors and carpets as appropriate.
• Replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and other essentials.
• Dispose of trash and recyclables in accordance with sanitation guidelines.
• Operate cleaning and laundry equipment safely and effectively.
• Report safety issues, supply needs, or facility concerns to supervisor promptly.
• Assist with inventory and restocking of cleaning and laundry supplies.
• Report any maintenance concerns or supply shortages to the supervisor.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning and laundry supplies.
• Adhere to all safety, health, and infection control protocols.
• Respect residents' privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
• Demonstrates strong commitment to meeting the needs of our children in a friendly, outgoing and professional manner.
• Responds to reasonable requests in a timely and thorough manner; does what is necessary to ensure satisfaction.
• Carry out and adhere to The Children's Shelter policies and procedures of Trauma Informed Care.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

• Practice safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required. Attend required annual training appropriate for position.
• Effective time management skills; ability to organize work necessary to ensure all daily tasks are done on time.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of housekeeping and/or laundry experience is required.
• Familiarity with cleaning products, safety procedures, and proper hygiene protocols.
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 30 lbs, standing, bending, and walking for long periods.
• Favorable personal background check.
• TB Test annually and questionnaire annually thereafter.
• Ability to engage and communicate effectively with persons from diverse cultures and communities, as from different groups, including children, their parents, agency colleagues, support staff members, supervisors, and administrators.
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily conducted indoors, with some tasks performed outdoors. The position involves cleaning multiple areas, making beds, and completing several loads of laundry each day, requiring a level of physical fitness to fulfill the duties associated with this role.
