Position Summary: The Custodian III/Floater is responsible for keeping the district's school buildings and offices in such a state of cleanliness and operating excellence that they present no health risks, problems or interruptions to the educational program. The hours for the position will be a swing shift starting at 10:00 AM and ending at 6:30 PM, however they are subject to change based district needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Bloomfield Public Schools reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet educational and organizational goals. Perform interdepartmental mail and package deliveries, delivery of checks to all applicable locations, delivery of metered mail to post office at the end of the day, and courier pick-ups and deliveries for the BOE as needed. Accept deliveries to the BOE as needed and pickup and deliver miscellaneous items within the district. Responsible for the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Weekly collection of Styrofoam lunch trays to be brought back to BOE for disposal. Prepares building for school activities. Sweep, dust, mop, strip, shampoo, and/or scrub interior walls/surfaces, floors, furnishings and woodwork per assigned schedule. Clean and preserve assigned spaces, equipment etc. in the building. Adhere to prescribed safety regulations and guidance. Safely and correctly operate and maintain floor and other cleaning power equipment. Advise supervisor of any major maintenance problems. Perform minor maintenance work as required, including re-lamping and furniture assembly. Loads and unloads trucks or other vehicles and provides assistance in the moving of heavy equipment, furniture, and/or other materials. Restock disposable items and provide head custodian with inventory usage and data. Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment. Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work primarily snow removal and sanding/salting of icy surfaces and light landscaping such as weeding, pruning trimming, and policing grounds for liter. Maintain building and grounds security in the building each school day. Cover other schools if department is short staffed due to illness, vacations, vacancies etc. Project work as assigned. May include:

Floor care Carpet care Specialized detail cleaning Set up/break down for events. Situations calling for immediate action.

Qualifications/Competencies Required:

The incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the skill, knowledge and/or abilities required. * Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least one (1) year of experience in building maintenance and/or cleaning work.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations Required:

A valid motor vehicle driver's license is required. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory driving record, which will be verified through a background check at the time of hire. Ongoing employment is subject to periodic reviews of the employee's driving record throughout the duration of employment.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute using money, weight measurement, volume, distance, proportions, percentages, area and circumference. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Apply common sense understanding to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Pass a district written and physical test. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Work unsupervised or with limited supervision.

Frequently required to reach with hands and arms such as to operate vibrating machinery; squat, stoop or kneel; reach above the head and reach forward. Frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing duties. Occasionally required to sit. Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs onto ladders. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. Will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Routinely required to perform duties using exertion and stamina.

Regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions. Work near or with moving mechanical equipment. May work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays, and non -household dust. Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Noise level is usually moderate.
