Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is under general supervision and performs work in a variety of skilled maintenance areas to include plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, electrical, painting and related areas.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Perform a variety of carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities. Perform a variety of plumbing tasks such as removing, replacing or repairing plumbing fixtures, water lines, etc. Perform minor electrical repairs such as replacing switches, outlets, ballasts and lights. Perform work of an unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled nature when necessary such as painting, masonry, etc. Perform a variety of mechanical tasks such as preventative maintenance on air compressors, exhaust fans, etc. Perform work on HVAC, air handler, etc. Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection)as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of methods, materials and procedures used in general repair and maintenance work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures. Knowledge of machines, tools and equipment used in a variety of tasks as required. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with various populations, the University community and the public. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to use, clean, repair and maintain equipment, tools and machinery required in accomplishing tasks. Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work overtime as needed. Ability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather duties. Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs. Heights and working on elevations of 60 feet. Work off ladders and lifts. Required Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent (GED, HiSET, or other). A minimum of three (3) years of previous work experience in building and plant maintenance involving a variety of work such as plumbing, carpentry, painting and mechanical.. Valid driver's license. Basic computer literacy. A background check will be required of the successful applicant. An official transcript (if applicable) and names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required for the successful applicant.
