Title:
HR Benefits and Retirement Specialists. Location:
100% Remote. Period of Performance:
6 months with two 3-month option periods. Investigation:
Public Trust (Tier 4). Salary:
Depends on Experience.
Expert Knowledge Benefit programs and the laws governing these programs. Comprehensive understanding of CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) and FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) retirement programs.
Experience
At least 3 years of experience within the previous 10 years working on federal retirements. Equivalent to GS-0201-11, HR Specialist (Employee Benefits). Minimum 7 overall years of experience in human resources.
Counseling Skills
Counsel employees on the impact and implications of laws, regulations, entitlements, and obligations under various retirement systems. Counsel staff about crediting military and civilian service and Thrift Savings Plan benefits after retiring.
Technical Expertise
Applied knowledge of components required by OPM to complete retirement processing. Prepare annuity estimates, certified summaries of federal service, and retirement applications. Proficiency in using platforms like GRB (Government Retirement & Benefits Platform), ORA (Online Retirement Application), and other government systems.
Problem-Solving Skills
Resolve retirement problems via knowledge of retirement laws, regulations, and procedures. Identify retirement coverage errors and recommend corrective actions under Retirement Code Correction (RCC) and Federal Erroneous Retirement Coverage Corrections Act (FERCCA).
Customer Service Expertise:
Strong customer service skills to interact with employees, answer inquiries, and provide status updates on retirement applications. Conflict resolution techniques to handle sensitive or contested case matters.
Administrative Skills:
Ability to review, verify, and complete federal retirement packages with high accuracy. Coordinate with agency employees to address missing or incomplete retirement paperwork.
Technical Tools and Platforms: e-OPF, GRB Platform, HR Connect, TIMIS, and e-TRAK
Additional Requirements:
Knowledge of Federal Benefits: Familiarity with FEHB (Federal Employees Health Benefits), FEGLI (Federal Employees Group Life Insurance), FSA (Flexible Spending Account), FEDVIP (Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program), and FLTCIP (Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program).
