Summary Description The City of Camarillo is seeking a skilled and dedicated Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic II to join our Water Reclamation Division team. About the Opportunity The ideal candidate for the position of Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic II will be an individual who can perform the installation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, piping/conduit, and other mechanical equipment at a journey level. The candidate selected will work in the city's Water Reclamation Plant as well as several pump stations throughout the city. The ideal candidate should be able to utilize power and hand tools, electrical testing devices, welding and fabrication equipment, and possess the ability to work safely in an industrial environment. It is desirable for the candidate to have some experience with equipment at a wastewater treatment plant or similar industrial facility.

Qualifications The following describes the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job, either upon appointment or through a brief period of orientation and on-the-job training. Knowledge of: Operations, services, and activities of a water reclamation plant maintenance and repair program. Principles, methods, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical/instrumentation devices, equipment, and systems including pneumatic controls, electrical controls, telemetry, testing, calibrating, and repair techniques used at water reclamation systems. Equipment capabilities, limitations, and safe operating characteristics. Operating principles and maintenance requirements of valves, pumps, and motors. Methods and techniques of performing diagnostic troubleshooting services. Mathematical principles used in wastewater treatment system maintenance. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Principles and practices of record keeping. Operational characteristics of wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Ability to:

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled mechanical and electrical duties involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's reclamation plant facilities and equipment. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment. Troubleshoot and accurately diagnose mechanical and electrical repair needs. Test, makes repair to, and perform preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, valves, electrical devices, and other equipment used in wastewater system. Calibrate, align, and test a variety of systems designed to monitor treatment plant processes and activities. Operate a variety of maintenance and repair mechanical and electrical/instrumentation equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner. Read and interpret gauges, meters, and other instrument readings and take effective course of action. Read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems. Respond to emergency situations, including those outside of normal working hours, and determine an effective course of action. Compile data and maintain a variety of repair records. Perform math calculations related to wastewater treatment system maintenance. Perform assigned work in accordance with appropriate safety practices and regulations Perform heavy manual labor. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Respond courteously and appropriately to inquiries and complaints. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized course work or training in the installation, maintenance, and repair of reclamation plant facilities and equipment. Experience:

Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water reclamation systems, including electrical/instrumentation equipment, comparable to a Water Reclamation Plant Mechanic I with the City of Camarillo. License or Certificate:

Possession of a Grade II Mechanical Technologist certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association. Possession of a valid California driver's license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated. Possession a Grade I Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association is highly desirable.

Work is performed primarily at a water reclamation plant; exposure to noise of plant machinery and other equipment, dust and grease, mechanical and electrical hazards of operating equipment, fumes and odors of sewage, chemicals, and gases, toxic substances such as chemicals, cleaners, solvents, and gases, and all types of weather and temperature condition; work in or around water and wastewater; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces; occasionally works in confined spaces or on ladders/scaffolding; incumbents are subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks and standby and are required to work varying hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Physical:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work at a water reclamation plant; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Retirement

- All regular employees are enrolled in CalPERS. "Classic" members: 2% @ 55; City pays the employee contribution. "PEPRA" members: 2% @ 62; employee contributes 8.25% of salary. Social Security

- The City does not participate in Social Security. Receiving a CalPERS benefit may affect your Social Security upon retirement. For further information contact a Social Security office or www.socialsecurity.gov/form1945. Medicare

- Employees hired after April 1, 1986 are required to contribute 1.45% of earnings, with an equal amount paid by the City. Defined Contribution

- The City contributes 7% of employee's gross salary to a 401a Plan. Deferred Compensation

- Employees have the option to contribute to a 457 Plan up to the maximum allowed by law. Health Insurance

- The City contributes $158 per month towards a selection of plans. Health insurance is effective the first of the month after date of hire. Flex Benefit/Cafeteria Plan

- $2,788 monthly, which may be applied toward health insurance premiums. Unused money may be taken as cash, payable twice a month. Dental/Vision Insurance

- City pays premium for employees and dependents. Dental/Vision insurance is effective the first of the month after date of hire. Life Insurance

- City-paid term life insurance equal to the employee's annual salary, plus $5,000, rounded up to next $5,000 and dependent life insurance of $2,000 per dependent, is provided. Short/Long Term Disability

- City pays premium for employees. Eligibility period: 0 days for injury/hospitalization or 7 days for an illness. Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Plan

- Specified employee groups are mandated to participate in the RHS Plan. Holidays

- 11 days (88 hours) plus 3 floating holidays (24 hours) per year. Management Leave

- Executive and mid-management exempt employees receive 40-88 hours per year. Vacation

- Vacation is determined by number of years of service. (0-4 years = 80 hrs; 5-9 years = 120 hrs; 10-14 years = 160 hrs; 15+ years = 168-200 hrs). Employees are eligible to use vacation after 6 months of employment. Sick Leave
