I. BASIC FUNCTION
A. The Custodian shall be responsible for the proper care, order, cleanliness and maintenance of the building, equipment, furnishings, and grounds. B. This shift is from daylight to twilight, Monday through Friday with other potential assignments as listed below.
II. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
A. Cleans and maintains assigned rooms; duties to include but not limited to the following:
1. Dry mop rooms and hallways daily 2. Dust rooms and hallways daily 3. Wash windows and mirrors 4. Clean writing and marks from desks and walls 5. Wet mop restrooms 6. Clean commodes and urinals 7. Fill paper towel and toilet tissue holders 8. Make minor repairs 9. Replace light bulbs
B. Assist with summer cleaning in all areas of building.
1. Cleaning lights 2. Scrubbing and stripping floors 3. Waxing floors 4. Washing desks and furniture 5. Repairing desks and furniture 6. Washing book shelves 7. Trimming grass 8. Refinishing gym floor 9. Washing windows
C. Perform weekend and holiday building checks on an alternating basis with other custodians.
1. Check building for open doors and windows 2. Check building for break-ins and vandalism 3. Check for water leakage in building 4. Check temperatures of coolers and freezers 5. Check boiler operation in cold weather 6. Perform building checks before 8:00 A.M.
D. Work at sporting and special events on assigned weekends and holidays.
1. Open building and rooms as needed 2. Turn on heat and ventilation systems if needed 3. Be available during events for emergencies 4. Clean up after the event
E. Assist other custodians with their duties.
F. Assist with set-up and tear-down at commencement if so assigned.
G. Assist with snow removal.
H. Maintain an appropriate inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies. Order supplies through the Head Custodian.
I. Insure that faculty, students and co-workers are exposed to a safe environment.
J. Understand the Pennsylvania Right-To-Know Law. All products should be properly labeled.
K. Prepare building and grounds for sporting and/or special events that may be scheduled.
L. Mow courtyard areas and other areas close to the school building after school hours.
M. Painting and minor building maintenance.
N. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds or Principal.
III. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
A. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
B. Frequent bending, scooping, grasping and reaching.
C. Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time for the majority of the shift.
D. Occasional pushing and/or pulling.
E. Some carrying - up to thirty (30) pounds.
F. Occasional climbing of ladders, step ladders and scaffolding.
IV. PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS
A. Head Custodian
The Custodian shall be directly responsible to the Head Custodian.
B. Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds
The Custodian shall be responsible to the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
C. Building Principal
The Custodian shall be indirectly responsible to the Building Principal.
D. Other District Personnel
The Custodian shall work cooperatively with all other District staff.
E. Public
The Custodian shall maintain a positive attitude and relationship toward the public.
