Position Overview

As a Fleet and Equipment Field/ Shop Technician, you will be responsible for the diagnostics, maintenance, inspection, and repair of trucks and specialized railroad fleet equipment in a field environment. This will be a Hybrid role so about 80% Shop and 20% Field. This role requires travel to customer sites, rail yards, and remote locations in company provided vehicle to perform DOT, FRA, and crane inspections, troubleshoot engines, HVAC systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and drivetrain components, and ensure equipment remains safe and operational. There could also be 20% overnight travel as well up to 8 hours away. While the primary focus is on fleet vehicles, technicians may also be tasked with servicing heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and other machinery when required.

Primary Job Duties: Travels to customer locations, rail yards, and job sites to perform on-site repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics of trucks and railroad fleet equipment. Conducts DOT, FRA, and crane inspections to ensure fleet compliance with federal and industry regulations. Diagnoses and repairs engines, HVAC systems, electrical components, hydraulic systems, braking systems, powertrains, and other mechanical and electronic systems. References service manuals, diagnostic software, and parts catalogs to determine faults and verify repair specifications. Performs advanced troubleshooting and failure analysis to identify the root cause of mechanical and electrical issues. Escalates unresolved problems to Technical Communicators as needed. Orders necessary parts for repairs, assesses reusability, and determines failure causes. Occasionally performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and other machinery when required. Works independently in the field with minimal supervision while maintaining a professional demeanor and strong communication with customers. Provides real-time updates to customers on diagnostics, repairs, and estimated completion times.
