Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced
Utility Estimator
to join our growing team in San Antonio, TX. The Utility Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for utility infrastructure projects across various sectors including electrical, and gas. This role plays a critical part in the preconstruction phase by supporting bidding, budgeting, and project planning efforts for an EPC firm delivering turnkey infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive and competitive utility cost estimates.
Evaluate labor, material, and equipment requirements for utility scopes including underground/overhead power, conduit systems, water/sewer lines, and telecom networks.
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure scope accuracy and alignment with project deliverables.
Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations for materials, services, and equipment.
Identify potential risks, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process.
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess field conditions and access limitations.
Develop detailed quantity take-offs and maintain accurate unit pricing databases and cost histories.
Assist in developing bid strategies and reviewing final proposals for compliance and competitiveness.
Track and analyze market trends, regional cost indices, and commodity fluctuations to ensure up-to-date pricing.
Support handoff to project management teams upon award and provide ongoing estimating support during project execution as needed.
Qualifications:
3–7 years of experience in utility estimating within an EPC, general contracting, or specialty utility firm.
Strong knowledge of electric and/or gas utilities.
Ability to interpret civil and utility construction drawings and specifications.
Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
