Fleet Coordinator
for the
Public Works Vehicle Maintenance
Department . The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

Duties & Responsibilities A Fleet Coordinator is responsible for managing the Town's vehicle and equipment fleet, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. This position will assist all Departments with having all vehicles and equipment needed to perform their roles. This position will assist with making business analysis decisions on overall fleet management. This position will report to the Public Works Director. Scheduling maintenance and repairs to keep vehicles operational and safe. Tracking fuel consumption, mileage, and vehicle usage to optimize costs. Ensuring compliance with transportation laws and Town policies. Managing fleet inventory, including registrations, insurance, and inspections. Maintaining records of warranties and recalls. Maintaining motor pool availability. Implementing cost-saving strategies for fleet operations. Developing policies and training programs for drivers. Perform other related duties as assigned. Special Requirements, Education & Experience
Using insights to improve fleet performance, improve efficiencies, and reduce costs. Understanding of laws and regulations related to fleet operation. Ability to write bidding specifications for vehicles and equipment Familiarity with North Carolina public procurement, bidding, and contracting laws. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, fleet management software, and fleet telematics Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination, reporting, and departmental engagement. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with external partners. Education & Experience Required:
At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management or logistics. Familiarity with municipal government operations, purchasing, and budgeting. Preferred:
Associate's degree in logistics, transportation management, business administration, or a related field. Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM)APWA training/certifications related to public works and procurement
At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management or logistics. Familiarity with municipal government operations, purchasing, and budgeting. OR
Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
