Model Remodel, a Seattle-based general contractor specializing in high-quality residential remodeling, is seeking an experienced Designer to join our team. We’re looking for a motivated, honest, and reliable individual who brings professionalism, creativity, and a passion for thoughtful, sustainable design.
About the Role
As a Designer at Model Remodel, you’ll play a pivotal, client-facing role in guiding homeowners through the remodeling journey—from initial concept to construction. You’ll help clients visualize their transformed spaces through 2D and 3D drawings, assist with layout planning, and provide expert guidance on materials and finishes that align with their budget and vision. You’ll also manage permit documentation, coordinate with internal teams, and stay engaged through the build phase to ensure design intent is carried through to completion. This is a collaborative role that requires strong communication skills, technical design expertise, and a solid understanding of residential construction and permitting in the Seattle area. Professionalism, reliability, and consistent in-person presence are essential, particularly during client meetings, site visits, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and estimating process for residential remodeling projects
Perform full-site measurements to inform accurate design and planning
Manage the ordering and coordination of MRM Dealer Cabinets and Casework when applicable, including layout accuracy, delivery scheduling, and issue resolution
Produce architectural drawings, renderings, and permit submittal documents
Assist clients with layout planning, material selections, and fixture choices within budget
Coordinate with Client Services, Estimators, Project Managers, and Supervisors to ensure a seamless transition from design to build
Attend and facilitate client meetings, design reviews, and pre-construction meetings
Monitor project schedules and provide recommendations to the Supervisor before construction begins
Stay actively involved during construction to address design-related questions and ensure quality and consistency
Maintain open communication with all project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams
Must always exhibit professional conduct and mutual respect to all people
Strong communication skills and ability to establish good working relationships with team members and clients

Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of experience in residential and remodeling design
Degree in Design or Architecture, or equivalent experience
Proficiency in Chief Architect, CAD, and Microsoft Office applications
Strong knowledge of Seattle-area building codes, permitting processes, and construction standards
Proven experience producing permit-ready drawings and managing permit intake
Excellent communication and client relationship skills
Experience working with remodeling firms, engineers, and municipalities
Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Frequent standing and sitting.
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to work at computer or desk area for extended periods of time.
Must be able to use a computer and see color.
Ability to walk through residential properties, including navigating stairs and uneven surfaces.
Ability to bend, reach, and position oneself to access tight or elevated areas.
Ability to use hands and fingers to operate measuring tools such as tape measures and laser devices.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within King County.

Pay Range: $90,000–$105,000 DOE, plus commissions
