Arlington County's Facilities Management Bureau, part of the Department of Environmental Services (DES) is hiring a

Custodial Worker II

to join its team. The Facilities Management Bureau is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy environment for the citizens of Arlington and the customers that use and/or work in our facilities. The primary responsibility of this position will be cleaning and maintenance of County facilities and performing other job-related duties.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include: Cleaning carpets; stripping, waxing, sweeping, and mopping floors; Vacuuming and emptying office trash containers; Cleaning, dusting and polishing furniture; Cleaning and stocking restrooms; Locking and unlocking buildings; Keeping grounds free of trash and emptying outside trash receptacles; Conducting inventory and replenishing cleaning supplies; Participating in the training of new employees; Occasionally setting up conference rooms for meetings and escorting contractors throughout the facility; and Using a snow blower and shovel to remove snow from sidewalks, entrances, and exits. The ideal candidate will be able to read work schedules and memos; understand and carry out basic instructions; and provide information and instructions to others.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Three months of custodial work experience.

Desirables : Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

Twelve (12) months or more of custodial work experience; Using carpet extractors, shampooing machines, and all practices used in cleaning carpets; Using germicidal cleaners and floor strippers; and/or Performing minor building and grounds maintenance. Special Requirements

Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain or must provide a copy of their official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record. The employee must be available for call back during emergencies.

Physical Requirements

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work entails stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling supplies, office equipment and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds. Work involves traveling to and cleaning buildings at various locations throughout the County.

Additional Information

Work hours:

Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Employee is considered an essential employee and will be required to be available for call-back to work during emergencies (Snow events. Storms).
