About the job
We are seeking a highly analytical and collaborative Manager of Planning to join our team. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role at the intersection of Finance and Merchandise Planning, where you’ll play a critical part in driving inventory productivity and gross margin performance.
As a key member of the team, you’ll partner closely with Finance, Planning, Inventory Management and Sourcing to translate data into actionable strategies that guide business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong financial and planning acumen, excellent modeling and analytical skills, and a passion for using data to influence outcomes.
You’ll have direct visibility into key business levers and a meaningful voice in how we invest in product, manage margin, and forecast performance. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and enjoys working cross-functionally to align planning decisions with broader financial goals.
What you’ll do
Inventory & Margin Planning
Support the development of merchandise plans, including sales, inventory, markdowns, and margin forecasts.
Track and analyze key inventory metrics (turn, cover, aged inventory) and margin drivers (IMU, AUR, markdowns, shrink, freight).
Partner with Finance to build gross margin forecasts and contribute to the monthly forecast and budget processes.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Collaborate closely with Finance, Planning, and Sourcing teams to align on financial and merchandise strategies.
Communicate key insights and business risks/opportunities to Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
Assist Head of Planning in aligning Open-to-Buy (OTB) and inventory flow with financial targets.
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly reporting on inventory, sales, and margin performance.
Support post-season hindsight analysis to identify trends, lessons, and opportunities.
Provide ad hoc analysis and insights to guide decision-making.
Wholesale Planning
Develop and maintain merchandise plans specific to the wholesale channel, incorporating account-level forecasts and seasonal sales strategies.
Monitor order flow and inventory positions to ensure timely fulfillment and optimized in-stock levels.
Partner with VP of Wholesale to align wholesale targets with company-wide inventory and margin objectives.
Cash Flow Modeling
Build and maintain merchandise-related cash flow models to support financial planning and liquidity management.
Model the timing of inventory purchases, receipts, and sales to forecast working capital requirements.
Provide scenario analysis to assess the cash impact of changes in buying strategies, seasonal flows, and wholesale commitments.
Process & Tools
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of planning tools, reporting systems, and forecasting processes.
Ensure accuracy and consistency across data sources and planning inputs.
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Merchandising, or a related field.
4–6 years of experience in Planning, FP&A, or related role in a retail or consumer business.
Strong understanding of inventory planning, gross margin mechanics, and financial forecasting.
Proficient in Excel and BI tools (e.g., Looker, Power BI), Python and SQL a plus.
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working cross-functionally.
Hybrid role, 3 days in the office in San Francisco.
