The Dining Services Department at Elizabethtown College invites applications for a

The General Manager will provide operational leadership, ensure the highest standards of food quality, service, and safety are being met. This role involves hiring, onboarding, managing and developing a dynamic team, as well as optimizing operational efficiency, and maintaining strong relationships with customers, vendors, and stakeholders.

Job Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Lead and monitor the preparation of all food and beverage items and cooking activities of foodservice personnel and act as on the floor manager during traditional mealtimes for retail and residential operations Manage and review costs, profits, etc., develop reports, and provide recommendations to the Director In conjunction with the Director, conduct long-range planning for the department and ensure proper implementation In conjunction with the Director, plan and implement all program enhancement plans In collaboration with the Catering Manager, oversee event planning for VIP events Oversee personnel resource management including employee discipline and evaluation, crisis intervention and serving in the role of department representative to various groups on meeting and staff activities As part of the management team, assist in all areas of operations as needed, including cooking, taking orders, running registers, instructing employees on duties Serve as Manager on Duty according to the rotational schedule, including during Summer Conferences Establish, oversee, and conduct training programs for unit personnel, including new hire onboarding Manage all aspects of sourcing for open positions - create new and/or submit replacement job openings and work with appropriate supervisors for hiring and onboarding new staff Work with the Management team to maintain all personnel files and records, updating as needed Work with the Management team to review, adjust as needed, and approve all employee timecards Work with the Management team to maintain benefit time balances for department employees and track any FMLA status for eligible employees Oversee the meal plan system for meal plan holders, to include meal plan deposits, adjustments and reporting functions Collaborate with the Catering Manager to update billing rates for all internal and external customers Give specific instructions in the cooking of menu items and observe activities in the kitchen to determine that food is prepared in a proper manner and waste is minimized Oversee the quality, freshness and appearance of all foods served, including cooking and preparation methods Administer health and safety standards in compliance with college, state, and federal code regulations Meet budgetary requirements Responsible for staff training and development Implement and handle special vendor programs and promotions Plan and execute support of revenue generating events on the campus, in collaboration with Catering and SESP Conduct all responsibilities in a safe manner according to regulations (ServSafe, OSHA, EPA, etc.) Serve as the Director of the Department in the absence of the Director Other duties as assigned NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Be able to oversee catered events if necessary Attend department meetings and participate in decision-making Involvement in student life through committees, advising capacities and involvement in campus events when the Director is not available. Attend campus meeting as the Dining Service representative when the Director is not available. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position directly supervises the Dish room & Cleaning hourly staff, and needs to do so in accordance with Elizabethtown College's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, scheduling, rewarding, and disciplining individuals; appraising individual performance; and resolving complaints.
Required Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree is required; plus five years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a high-volume, mass-feeding environment is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
This position requires a valid driver's license for business travel purposes (individual must have a US driver's license for at least three years; a motor vehicle record check will be run and the incumbent must pass the College's MVR rating system). Serv Safe Certification required Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training
